Construction of Aupark Košice will proceed as scheduled
Expected archaeological findings are not a menace to the construction at Námestie osloboditeľov Square
According to the expectations, last week during excavation works at Námestie osloboditeľov (square), fragments of stone walls were found. Following a preliminary investigation of archaeological team the relics could be groundwork fragments of construction of a modern military fortification – Košice citadel. In these days another archaeological research under the supervision of Regional Monuments Board in Košice is in progress. Public will be informed about the research results soon.
“We are glad that during construction we managed to uncover what we were expecting – the groundwork of military fortification. Startling news that investor could use these findings as an opportunity to withdraw from a contract and cancel the project are only a conspiracy theory. HB Reavis Slovakia is a stable leader on the Slovak real-estate market which, yet in a time of recession, not only continued to work on its projects but even started new ones. Accordingly, comparing to the other investor that used the archaeological findings underneath the Trenčín rock as a reason to cancel his project is completely inappropriate and out of question. We declare full support to the archaeological team and to the Monuments Board and we still hold our position regarding the public commitment to build up a four-way road for citizens of Košice town and the Aupark shopping center itself and in terms of instructions from the Monuments Board take steps in relation to the archaeological findings,” said the HB Reavis representative, Roman Karabelli.
When completed, on three floors and almost on 34 thousand square metres, Aupark Košice project will offer 161 premises and 1,100 parking lots, and also more than 11 thousand square metres of leasable office space of the highest standard. At last but not least, the centre will offer hundreds of job opportunities. According to the investor estimated total cost of the construction amounts 93 millions EUR (2.8 billions SKK). At the same time the company will build up a modern four-way road at Námestie osloboditeľov (square) and therefore it will contribute to the smoothness of traffic in the town center.
